I love the "loyal to the death . . . and more?" vibe of Marvelous and Joe. Marvelous and Ahim is adorkable. Don and Joe Don both have small moments in which they could run with it. The female bonding with Luka and Ahim is just beautiful because honestly, most series are horrible at bonding women - and Ahim shouting Luka down in Episode 23 really makes it a reciprocal relationship (Ahim is just assumed to be "weak" because she's "kind" - that doesn't make her naive).
If we are going with what I like more and what I think would have the best dynamic to be canon, it would have to be Joe and Ahim and Marvelous and Luka (tied with Luka / Don but I am iffy about Don's dynamic). Joe and Ahim, to me, have certain traits in common that put them on a level with one another that I think in other dynamics, it would be totally glossed over. Joe says more with his expressions than with words - and Ahim would be (and in my opinion, is) the one to /notice/. Thinking before speaking and having a certain amount of grace and mercy, but not naively. The most common pitfall with it might be lack of you know, romantic tension, because it's so "cute" but I think that thought dissipated in episode four (licking the cream); she's not /that/ innocent. I would wager that he isn't, either.
And here . . . oooohhhhh Marvelous and Luka! Where do I begin? Sassy. Headstrong. Ambitious. They have that down pat, and I would say that have that in common with one another. They do not seem to be afraid to say what they want, when they want, because they are pirates and damn right they can do it! I feel where JoeAhim would be a bit smoother and graceful (but likely angsty), Marveluka is rough around the edges. Luka doesn't take his coat - she'll take him out and from what I can tell does not mind putting the captain in his place - he struts around like he owns the place and can be a bossy SOB when he wants. They both have this adorable sparkle of adventure that I LOVE. Their verbal banter is fantastic, too.
I see JoeAhim more likely than Marveluka solely because Marvelous could easily be distracted with his adventures rather than pursuing anything, and has that ridiculously tense relationship with . . . I won't say because I have no idea how far you are yet
